The cover of this double issue pictures a drawing of James Davie Butler, who compiled meticulous notes of homes and owners of Rutland through 1839. An opening biographical sketch of Mr. Butler is presented by Dawn Hance, with additional details contributed by Michael Austin, editor of the issue.
Meticulously organized, there are land records, interviews and books of Rutland County’s history annotating changes in ownership noting changes in the lives of the owners themselves.
The wealth of information is organized by major streets, that follow a numbered sequence, one hundred ten in all.
There are pictures of homes on every page and an 1854 map of Rutland naming both houses and their owners.
The issue closes with an account of Main Street Park, again contributed by Dawn W. Hance.
